Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida
The 630-acre Plantation residential development is located on the northeast Atlantic coast of Florida. It has been planned and designed as a prestige community, blending low density construction with environmental sensitivity and numerous amenities. Phase I development consisted of 133 homesites, a 120-acre championship golf course, a tennis complex, and a 90-acre system of lakes.
ARCADIS was responsible for providing engineering design and construction administration for site drainage, utilities, roads and bridges, as well as for regulatory processing. The development's championship 18-hole golf course, planned by Arnold Palmer and Ed Seay, was also engineered and permitted by ARCADIS.
The firm's design solutions for this project included many unique features. For example, ARCADIS pioneered a drainage percolation/filtration system for the golf course that simultaneously provides irrigation and effluent treatment. The project team also designed a dual purpose lake system that has aesthetic function and manages stormwater run-off generated by the development. Reflecting the sensitive coastal environment of the site, a littoral zone was constructed for wading birds within this lake system.
