Front Street Improvements

ARCADIS engineers designed improvements to approximately 2.2-miles of Front Street in order to widen the roadway from two lanes to five lanes. The project work included a 265-foot, 6-inch three-span steel girder bridge with approach embankments over the Norfolk and Western railroad tracks. Plans included construction staging, temporary pavement, maintenance of traffic, detour plans, and permanent signing and pavement marking plans. The project included design of a new storm sewer system, traffic maintenance, traff ic control plans, signalization and preparation of right-of-way plans. Construction on the project began in 1988 and was stopped when contaminated soils were found. Following numerous delays, the City decided to continue with the project in 1996 and enlisted ARCADIS, the Toledo - Lucas County Port Authority, residents, and industrial property owners to resolve past issues. ARCADIS was called upon to update their original plans and redesign for the environmental concerns. The construction was completed in 1997 at a construction cost of approximately $15 million. ARCADIS provided construction monitoring services following the design completion.
