12 Mile Road Reconstruction

In a two-phase, $14 million project, ARCADIS designed improvements to 12 Mile Road to support increased traffic for a new 80-acre shopping center.

In the initial phase of the project, ARCADIS engineers designed the reconstruction of 1.2 miles of 12 Mile Road from east of Novi Road to east of Taft Road from a two-lane roadway into a four-lane boulevard; right-turn lane widening for Novi Road and West Oaks Drive; reconstruction of 900 feet of Donelson Drive; construction of 0.7 mile of a new 2-lane and 3-lane roadway around the perimeter of the development; and a lane widening of the westbound I-96 exist ramp to Novi Road. FPS provided coordination with numerous agencies for this project including MDOT, the Road Commission for Oakland County and the City of Novi. The project was constructed in 2002 at a construction cost of $10.2 million.

The second phase of the project involves the reconstruction of 12 Mile Road from Novi Road to Meadowbrook. The project will transform a 2-3 lane roadway to a 4-lane boulevard. The design for this .75-mile improvement adjacent to a regional mall includes the establishment of geometrics, horizontal and vertical alignment, storm drainage, utility coordination and relocation, stage permits, and right-of-way plans and right-of-way/easement legal descriptions. The improvements are being coordinated with the City and Twelve Oaks Mall. Construction for this $3.8 million project will began in 2002.
