MARTA Systems Survey

ARCADIS has served as a subcontractor of surveying services for the Metropolitan Atlanta Regional Transportation Authority (MARTA) for more than 10 years. We have provided support for the construction of several MARTA rail stations, such as Buckhead, Medical Center, Sandy Springs, North Springs, Kensington, Indian Creek, and Doraville. ARCADIS provided the horizontal and vertical survey control with which to build these projects and the rail line sections that connect them. We have collected boundary and preliminary topographic information for proposed routes of the transit system.

ARCADIS is the primary survey subcontractor on the Buckhead, Medical Center and Sandy Springs Stations, which involved checking the contractor’s layout and reporting discrepancies. The contractor would then make any necessary changes before the actual construction, resulting in money saved by MARTA and the contractor. This process has worked very well and produced more work for ARCADIS in the form of additional contracts.

ARCADIS has also been involved in mapping projects with MARTA that involved GPS location of aerial mapping points to provide a consistent and up-to-date GIS database of the entire MARTA system. We also provided several conventional surveys to check and supplement the database.

We have worked on several bus facilities, providing everything from construction monitoring to detailed as-built information on drainage and detention pond hydraulics.
