Busses have demonstrated their staying power as a valuable component of public transportation systems, often offering travelers a cost-effective alternative to traveling by car. Increasingly, however, busses are caught in the quagmire of daily traffic, reducing their efficiency as a reliable mode of transportation. This is where ARCADIS can help. Through the design of transport models, surveys and prognoses, we can assist bus network operators in realizing more efficiency in their networks. Through urban and regional transport plans, we assist municipalities with identifying the best locations for dedicated bus routes for existing roadways, or the construction of new dedicated routes where this is warranted. By designing and laying out bus stations, we can help facilitate a better flow of traffic for both busses and their passengers, while also identifying safety issues in the process. Additionally, we research and identify cost effective modes of bus transportation, such as on demand systems, which can help operators save money by improving load capacity.
