In-Situ Oxidation Pilot Test-State Remediation Program

ARCADIS assisted a major chemical manufacturer by recommending and successfully negotiating an innovative remedy to remediate toluene and tetrahydrofuran (THF) impacts in groundwater. The Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation, State Remediation Program (TDEC-SRP) and the Memphis-Shelby County Groundwater Quality Board

(MSCGWQB) provided approval to conduct a pilot application of in-situ oxidation via potassium permanganate this marks the first application of in-situ oxidation permitted by the MSCGWQB.

ARCADIS subsequently designed and implemented a study to determine the effectiveness of the in-situ oxidation technology in remediating the constituents and protecting the Memphis Sand Drinking Water Aquifer.

"The implementation and results obtained from the in-situ oxidation at this site was a significant accomplishment for future remediation of impacted sites in Shelby County and the City of Memphis," stated a key representative of the MSCGWQCB.

ARCADIS successfully reduced site toluene mass by >40% and THF by >80% in only three months using in-situ oxidation via permanganate.
