Salem, VirginiaARCADIS conducted a space needs study and preliminary design for a new electric department service building for the city of Salem, Virginia. An assessment was made of the department's 13 independent buildings, and a plan was developed to consolidate offices, SCADA operations, training, maintenance, workshop, storage, and materials handling functions into a single facility. The assessment included reviewing the existing structures, determining design parameters, and exploring consolidation options.
A site assessment was conducted to study traffic circulation and parking needs, site topography and storm water drainage requirements, site utilities, and determine environmental concerns.
An architectural assessment was completed by interviewing city staff and influenced by developing program requirements. Several conceptual floor plans, site plans, and building elevation options were presented to the city for evaluation. A preliminary design was then developed from the selected conceptual design. A three-dimensional computer rendering of the final proposed facility was provided.
The preliminary design has been approved and the project is currently in the construction document phase.
