Western Virginia Regional Jail — PPEA Proposal Review/ Construction Management
Salem, VA
The Western Virginia Regional Jail Authority was created to build, finance and operate a regional jail facility to serve the city of Salem and the counties of Franklin, Montgomery and Roanoke.
The firm of Hayes, Seay, Mattern and Mattern was retained to design and prepare construction documents for the project, which included a 605-bed facility in western Roanoke County, VA. Additionally, 200 beds were added as double bunking, giving an original capacity of 805 beds.
The facility encompasses nearly 266,000 square feet. It was constructed on a concrete slab-on-grade with pre-cast cells, and the administrative area is brick with aluminum composite panel cavity walls.
