San Diego Port Pavilion on Broadway Pier — Construction Management

ARCADIS provided project and construction management for the Port of San Diego's Port Pavilion on Broadway Pier project, one of the major components to the North Embarcadero Visionary Plan. The project achieved LEED Gold certification with 42 credits, exceeding the owner's goal of LEED Silver certification.
The project encompassed demolition of the former embarkation platform, seismic retrofit of the pier, and the construction of a LEED-certified 52,200 square foot, two-story, dual-use facility for cruise ship calls and for private and public events.
Main features of the facility included security screening for passengers and baggage, cruise line ticketing and office facilities, customs and border protection X-ray facilities, primary inspection, secondary inspection and interview space, baggage lay-down area, passenger queuing and waiting space, and a movable passenger boarding bridge.
Sustainability features included:
- Recycled concrete and steel from the former embarkation platform
- On-site renewable energy from a photovoltaic system
- Use of high-reflectance and high-emissivity roofing to reduce the heat-island effect
- Light pollution reduction
- Use of high-efficiency water fixtures
- Use of natural ventilation
- Incorporation of structural steel and concrete reinforcing bars with recycled content
- Enhanced commissioning
ARCADIS assisted in LEED coordination efforts with the district's LEED accredited professional, commissioning agent and project architectural team.
