Breakthrough Magnet School — Program & Construction Management

ARCADIS provided owner representation and project oversight services for the city of Hartford for Breakthrough Magnet School, a 57,622 square foot facility serving 330 students from pre-kindergarten through 8th grade. This project was the first Design-Build public school project in Connecticut and was designed to achieve LEED certification.

The total project cost was $30 million, with $6.3 million slated for remediation efforts and closing a solid waste landfill, which occupied two-thirds of the site. The school, in a residential area, includes a green roof, an outdoor amphitheater and state-of-the-art technology.

The scope of ARCADIS' services included:

  • Project management and technical oversight
  • Interfacing with the Hartford School Building Committee, the city of Hartford, and various state agencies and departments
  • Financial planning and reporting
  • Coordination of fit-out and furniture, fixtures and equipment (FF&E)
  • Commissioning oversight
