Denver, Colo. – Nov. 12, 2007 - ARCADIS (EURONEXT: ARCAD), the international consulting and engineering company, has been awarded nearly $2 million in contracts for project and construction management services from the City of Bowie, Maryland and Roanoke County, Virginia. ARCADIS will provide program/construction management services for the City of Bowie, Maryland’s new $27 million City Hall and to Roanoke County, Virginia for the delivery of a new $26.7 million Multigenerational Recreation Center under the Commonwealth of Virginia’s Public Private Education and Infrastructure Act (PPEA) of 2002.
“ARCADIS takes great pride in providing Sustainability by Design® solutions tailored to our clients’ unique projects. We have engineered sustainable solutions since the onset of the company in the 1800’s, it’s who we are and what we do, and we are pleased to extend our global expertise to the local communities where we live,” said Warren Walker, Vice President.
ARCADIS uses the nationally accepted Leadership in Energy and Environmental (LEED TM) Green Building Rating System as the benchmark for the design, construction and operation of high-performance green buildings. Design (LEED™) provides buildings owners and operators with the tools they need to have an immediate and measurable impact on their buildings’ performance. Obtaining a LEED certification provides independent, third-party verification that a building project is environmentally responsible, profitable and a healthy place to live and work.
For the City Hall project, ARCADIS beat 17 local and national competitors for the job. ARCADIS will help the City select the architectural/engineering firm to design the building, provide design phase management, value engineering, cost estimating, assist with construction contractor selection, and perform construction management and commissioning services. The City Hall will be designed using LEED™ guidelines by the US Green Building Council. The facility is expected to achieve a “LEED Silver” rating by incorporating recycled materials, energy conserving construction, low water use design, reduced site disturbance, construction waste recycling, and a site design that reduces negative impacts on water and air quality. The ARCADIS contract is valued at $1,010,000.
The recreation center will be located on 12 acres of land at the entrance to a new 200-acre business park project that the developer plans to construct. The multi-generational recreation center is a recreational community center designed to serve all age groups in the community. Although mainly indoor facilities, this centers will also have outdoor features such as walking trails and a mini water park. The recreation center will offer programs and services for people with a wide range of ages, abilities and incomes. The design/build project will construct approximately 75,750 gross square feet to include: gymnasiums, fitness rooms, meeting rooms, administrative offices, indoor aquatics; and outdoor aquatics. The facility is expected to achieve a “LEED Certified” rating or better. The ARCADIS contract is valued at $894,000.
