ARCADIS Wins ACEC of North Carolina 2009 Honors Award for Leading
the Way for Stormwater Improvements in the Heart of Downtown High Point

ARCADIS (EURONEXT: ARCAD), an international consulting and engineering company, today announced it was honored with an award from the North Carolina chapter of the American Council of Engineering Companies for its program management of the City of High Point's aggressive $15.4 million Stormwater Capital Improvements Program.

Downtown High Point is home to the High Point Market, the world's largest furnishings industry trade show, representing 110 countries and bringing 85,000 people to the City every six months. For years, the downtown area experienced severe, widespread flooding that threatened downtown prosperity, home values, and public well-being.

In 2004, the City initiated an aggressive program aimed at addressing these flooding issues. On November 2, 2004, High Point citizens approved a $15.4 million General Obligation Bond for a Stormwater Capital Improvements Program aimed at resolving these urban flooding issues. Seven high-priority drainage areas encompassing 1,400 acres were selected for study and improvement. These areas had the highest number of citizen complaints and greatest potential for loss of life and property damage.

Acting as the City's Program Manager, ARCADIS coordinated other consultants, as well as provided leadership, hydraulic modeling expertise, stormwater infrastructure design, and construction management services for key stormwater improvements projects.

"In August 2008, High Point received nearly 6 inches of rain within a 24-hour period. Afterwards, a High Point City Council member recognized ARCADIS for providing the stormwater expertise necessary to solve the flooding problems in the Sherbrook neighborhood," said Chris Thompson, City of High Point Director of Public Services. "This rain event would have typically caused severe flooding; however, because of ARCADIS' contribution, houses which have flooded in the past remained dry."

ARCADIS is an international company providing consultancy, engineering and management services in infrastructure, environment and buildings, to enhance mobility, sustainability and quality of life. ARCADIS develops, designs, implements, maintains, and operates projects for companies and governments. With more than 13,500 employees and more than $2 billion in gross revenue, the company has an extensive international network that is supported by strong local market positions.
