ARCADIS Senior Vice President Selected to Review a Report by the National Academy of Sciences

Denver, Colo. – Nov. 13, 2007 - ARCADIS (EURONEXT: ARCAD), the international consulting and engineering company, today announced that Senior Vice President J. Paul Doody, P.E. is one of 14 independent experts selected to review a report being published by the National Academy of Sciences on the effectiveness of dredging at Superfund “megasites” (sites where remedial costs are expected to exceed $50 million). The final report, which is being published [date], presents a host of recommendations for improving the effectiveness of monitoring and decision making related to the dredging of contaminated sediments at megasites.

Doody, who is a specialist in the management and remediation of impacted aquatic systems, is the Engineer of Record for the design of the sediment cleanup specified by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Superfund Record of Decision (ROD) for the Upper Hudson River. This precedent-setting ROD calls for, among other things, the targeted environmental dredging and the removal of approximately 2.65 million cubic yards of polychlorinated biphenyl-containing sediment from a 40-mile stretch of the river. The cleanup will be performed in two phases. During Phase 1, the first year of dredging, each component of the remedy will be tested to determine the appropriateness and validity of the guiding assumptions incorporated into the Phase 1 design, which was led by an ARCADIS company. The design is based on a comprehensive series of support activities, including sediment sampling, geotechnical investigations, river bathymetry and geophysics, treatability studies, cultural resources assessments, habitat evaluations, and baseline monitoring activities, and takes account of the performance standards developed by the EPA.

Doody has worked on many of the largest PCB contaminated sediment sites in the country and has more than more than 25 years of experience in the fields of environmental engineering, including remedial design and construction, remedial investigations and feasibility studies, treatability studies, and risk assessments.

ARCADIS is an international company providing consultancy, engineering and management services in infrastructure, environment and facilities, to enhance mobility, sustainability and quality of life. ARCADIS develops, designs, implements, maintains and operates projects for companies and governments. With more than 12,000 employees and over $1.9 billion in gross revenue, the company has an extensive international network that is supported by strong local market positions.
