ARCADIS Earns Contract Awards from CSX Transportation and CSX Intermodal; Will Provide Engineering Consultant Services for CSXT, Perform Environmental Compliance Assessments for CSXI

ARCADIS (EURONEXT: ARCAD), the international consulting and engineering company, today announced that it has won two contract awards from CSX Transportation (CSXT) and CSX Intermodal (CSXI).
ARCADIS will provide approximately $300,000 in engineering services to conduct environmental compliance assessments for CSXI.  In addition, ARCADIS will provide general engineering consultant services for CSXT; the value of this contract has yet to be determined.

The CSXI contract, which began in May, will run through mid-March 2010.  ARCADIS will perform the environmental compliance assessments at 16 terminals in Illinois, Indiana, Massachusetts, New Jersey, South Carolina, Tennessee and Virginia.  The 16 terminals represent half of CSXI's terminal base.

As part of the assessments, ARCADIS will review environmental permits, Spill Prevention Control and Countermeasures and Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plans.  ARCADIS will also review environmental management systems and sites periodically, while correcting environmental audit findings.

"We are pleased to have ARCADIS join our CSXI Environmental Management Program," said Hugh Perry, manager of environmental programs for CSXI.  "ARCADIS has been providing value to CSX for a long time, and CSXI recognizes the firm's vast professional expertise.  This was a key factor in our decision to invite ARCADIS to be a part of our program." Kenneth Richardson, ARCADIS program manager for CSXI, added: "We're looking forward to working with CSX Intermodal.  As CSXI gains momentum in the rapidly evolving freight industry, this contract places ARCADIS in an excellent position to expand our services within this business sector."

The CSXT contract began in June and will run through May 2010.  ARCADIS will provide general engineering consultant services – from program management and support to design, construction, engineering and inspection -- for some 60 transportation and public projects.

Added Bryan Mulqueen, senior vice president and region operations manager for ARCADIS: "Both awards demonstrate a broadening of our services with CSX to take on new technical requirements and new CSX customers.  This is the result of our success in delivering on past contracts."

ARCADIS will enlist the services of two partners on the CSXT contract.  Kennedy/Jenks Consultants is a full-service engineering and environmental services firm that has served the freight and rail industry for more than 20 years.  Glenn Underwater Services provides expert services in the inspection, assessment and repair of submerged structures. ARCADIS manages some 100 long-term remediation projects for CSX Transportation nationwide, and has completed 351 CSXT projects since 1994.

CSXT operates a rail network of 21,000 miles in 23 states as well as the District of Columbia and the Canadian provinces of Ontario and Quebec.  The network moves 1,200 trains a day, transporting an average of 20,000 carloads and maintaining a fleet of more than 3,800 locomotives and 102,000 freight cars.

ARCADIS is an international company providing consultancy, engineering and management services in infrastructure, environment and buildings, to enhance mobility, sustainability and quality of life. ARCADIS develops, designs, implements, maintains and operates projects for companies and governments. With more than 13,500 employees and more than $2 billion in gross revenue, the company has an extensive international network that is supported by strong local market positions.
